PHILIP TSIARAS (1952)

Born in New Hampshire, U.S.A., Philip Tsiaras studied at the Amherst College of Massachusetts and graduated in 1975.  He had his first solo exhibition at that same College (1974).  He has exhibited his work in many one-man and group shows both in Greece and abroad.  He has been awarded with the Poetry Prize of the American Academy (1975), twice with the National Endowment for Arts Prize for his painting (1984 and 1992), as well as with the Gold Medal of the Biennale of Venice (1995).  This specific painting belongs to the period of abstract expressionism in his work.  He lives and works in New York.
