  COSTAS TSOCLIS (1930)

Born in Athens, Costas Tsoclis studied painting at the School of Fine Arts with Yannis Moralis (1948-1954).  Subsequently, he went to Rome (1957-1960) and Paris (1960-1984), where he settled and worked.  At the same time, with the help of a German scholarship (D.A.A.D.) he continued his studies in West Berlin (1971-1972).  He had his first one-man show in Athens (1965), while participating at group exhibitions already since 1957.  Many other solo and group shows followed in Greece and abroad.  He has also illustrated books and published a number of articles on fine arts and has created several monumental constructions. The personal style that shows out his work is characteristic for its abstract frugality.  He lives and works in Athens.
