  ALKIS PIERRAKOS (1920-2017)

Born in Thessalonica, Alkis Pierrakos studied painting at the Gewerbeschule in Basel (1948-1950) and the Slade's School of London (1951-1953).  He had his first solo exhibition at Cambridge (1954).  Other one-man and group shows followed in Greece and abroad.  That same year he settled in Paris, where he became member of the group "La Ligne et le Signe".  His work is characterized by the personal lyric style which he has created in the frame of abstract expressionism.  Alkis Pierrakos passed away in Nafpaktos (2017).
