Panayotis D. Cangelaris is a specialized collector of Greek, Cypriot, Egyptian and Scout stamps. One of the pioneer exhibitor philatelists of Greece, he started collecting postage stamps in 1959 and has participated, since 1966, in numerous national, international and world philatelic exhibitions with specialized parts of his collections as well as with his book (in Greek language) "Dictionary of Greek Philatelists" (1982). He was to only Greek exhibitor at the first international youth philatelic exhibition JUVENTUS 1969 in Luxemburg, where he won the highest award. He has also organized in Athens Greece "The Scouts on Stamps Exhibition" (1970) and has been Representative of the Hellenic Philatelic Federation to the Youth Commission of the International Philatelic Federation (F.I.P.) from 1974 to 1981. He was elected Vice-President of the Pan Hellenic Society of Thematic Philately and Youth (2005-2017), as well as Curator (2005-2007), Secretary (2007-2013) and Secretary General (2013-2017) of the Hellenic Philatelic Federation. He was the Publisher and Director of the official bulletin of the H.P.F. "Philatelic Chronicles" (2005-2007) too.
Obviously with the passage of time each exhibit is improved. The fluctuation on the given awards is due to the subjectivity of the Jurists who judged each exhibit on the specific exhibition.
